Amateur Radio and The Walkie Talkie Bank Job

In these days of cellphone communication its is often difficult to remember that radio communication between two parties isn't private. Any radio amateur knows that, but it seems that back in 1971 some bank robbers hadn't quite got the idea, so when Robert Rowland, an amateur radio enthusiast form Central London, settled down with his radio set and a nice cup of tea one Saturday night, he heard a much more interesting conversation than he was expecting. We know, because he taped a large part of what he heard, and in 2008 he dug out the tapes so the event could be made into a film. At the time, the crime became known as the 'Walkie Talkie robbery', the film is called 'The Bank Job.'

When Rowland first heard the robbers conversation he thought they were robbing a tobacconists shop and called the local police. They seemed to find Mr Rowlands more amusing that important suggesting that if he heard any more 'funny voices' he get them on tape. An annoyed Mr Rowland did exactly that, using a cassette tape machine he had been using to learn Spanish.

Eventually a local Constable came round, but was soon called away. Mr Rowland called the police again, but eventually, exasperated by their lack of response, and with the apparent robbery continuing on the radio, he called Scotland Yard, headquarters of London's Metropolitan Police.

Two plain clothes officers arrived at Rowland's 4th floor flat in London's Wimpole Street and sat up with Rowland all night, listening to the robbers. In the morning, another two officers arrived and listened to Sunday's developments, but a police check of local banks showed nothing out of the ordinary (from the outside) On Monday morning, when staff arrived at Lloyd's bank in London's Bakers Street (not far from the flat of famous fictional detective Sherlock Holmes) they found that most of the safety deposit boxes had been emptied by robbers who had dug a tunnel from a nearby shop and entered the bank vault via the floor.

So far, this sounds like a story of incompetence. Rowlands knew that for his radio set to pick up such a strong signal, the robbery must have been taking place within 1 and a half miles, the robbery had started Saturday night and continued all the way through Sunday - surely enough time for the authorities to find the culprits.

The story made the news headlines and then suddenly stopped. Scotland Yard took the tapes and reporters were warned off when they tried to question Mr Rowland. Then the police actually threatened to prosecute Mr Rowland for listening to an unlicensed radio station.

No-one knows exactly what happened, four robbers were caught and jailed, but the money and other items stolen were never recovered, and since safety deposit boxes were involved, no-one knows exactly what was taken. And therein lies the mystery. Over the following years there were many scandals involving senior members of he police force, and a rumour that one safety deposit box had contained compromising pictures of a member of the British Royal family, while others had contained proof of police corruption at the highest levels, resulting in a load of prosecutions and resignations in the late 1970's.

With the release of the film several British newspapers sough out Mr Rowland, the amateur radio enthusiast who had taped the conversation. He said the tapes had been returned to him six years after the robbery. The Daily Mail also reported talking to one of the actual robbers, who refused to comment on pictures of any royal person but did say that the robbers had been disgusted to find lots of unpleasant pornographic pictures in the boxes which they had left in place so the police could track down the owners.

And it all goes to show that when you settle down with your radio set, you never know who you're going to talk to, or what you are going to hear, one reason why amateur radio is still a fascinating and absorbing hobby.

Ham Radio - How To Get A Ham Radio License

I know of people that are between the ages of 8 years old and 80 years old that have easily gotten their ham radio licenses. I did - and I am no electronics expert or broadcast radio disc jockey, etc.. Why am I qualified to write this article? Because I have taken the FCC ham radio license exams and have passed all three with flying colors. I did it quickly without a lot of expense. And now I enjoy what I consider to be THE best hobby ever! Also, I am qualified to give FCC ham radio license exams. I know what it works from the perspective of the non electronics type of person. I am an Auditor by training... I believe that if I can do it - so can you!

First - is a license really required to operate a ham radio? The answer is yes - the Federal Communications Commission requires it. And there are stiff penalties for those that would operate a ham radio on ham radio frequencies without one.

Second - WHY is a ham radio license required? I can assure you that it's NOT just so the darn government can get rich collecting license fees. The license fees are actually quite reasonable. The last time I checked it was to take the exam and getting the actual license after the exam was free. This may have changed. The exam is required so that you stay safe and stay within the operating rules and customs. Ham radio equipment deals with high levels of electrical charges and can be dangerous. Just like having to take a boating or hunting course, it's just a good idea to get some sound training and be able to prove that you know what you are doing. Also, if you operate on the wrong frequencies before you have the specific license required you can find yourself in legal trouble.

One of the best sources for ham radio license exam information is The American Radio Relay League. This is the national organization for ham radio. Do a Google search for ARRL to find their website. The reason you want to know about this website is because it contains lists of ham radio license exams (locations, times, check-in procedures, etc.). It also contains nice graphic charts of what frequencies and modes specific FCC ham radio license classes are allowed to operate on. These are free and are quite valuable in day to day use as well as to use as study guides.

There are three levels of ham radio licenses. Technician (basic - low power), General (more power - more frequencies) and Extra (highest power allowed - most frequencies allowed). Take the Technician license exam first. Some people take two or three levels at a time. If you feel like it - go for it - I took one at a time and got them all done in a matter of a few months. I would suggest one at a time unless you REALLY know what you are doing. One test makes a long day...

The ARRL also has books and CD's, etc. that you can buy to prepare for the exam. They are well worth the cost and will come in handy after you get your license as well. You can also take practice exams on-line as for free or for pay as well. Do a Google search for "QRZ practice exams" and you will find a good site to take them for free. I do not have a financial interest in this site - they are just used by many many hams - they provide it as a service to the ham radio community. Their site is also a good site for daily ham radio news, etc..

Study the material. Take the practice exams. You will find that most sites use the ACTUAL exam questions that will be used on the exam. There is one catch. There are something like 300 - 500 possible exam questions for a given test taker. Only something like 35 questions are chosen at random for any given exam. In general, if you take quite a few of the practice exams and get passing grades - you should pass the actual exam.

When you are ready to take the exam, search for a license exam on the ARRL site. I suggest calling the people giving the exams ahead to let them know you will be there and get any questions answered. They will explain everything you need and what you can and can not bring into the exam.

Best of luck to you! I hope to hear you on the air! My FCC call sign is AB9NN by the way!

An Overview of the Motorola Mototrbo Radio

The Mototrbo Radio is a professional Digital Two-Way-Radio System from Motorola. On first impression, the radio is a small, but well formed device in a black plastic casing. The aerial is quite long but offers good coverage and quality of voice when transmitting and receiving.

Motorola claim that this next-generation two-way radio offers enhanced performance, productivity and value. It has many features for both the standard and enhanced user.

Mototrbo offers a highly cost-effective solution that can be tailored to meet your requirements.

Mototrbo:

o Uses Time-Division Multiple-Access (TDMA) technology to provide twice the calling capacity (compared to analogue or FDMA radios) for the price of one license. A second call does not require a second repeater, saving you equipment costs.

o Doubles the number of users you can have on a single licensed 12.5 kHz channel - with no monthly fees.

o Integrates voice and data to increase operational efficiency and support a wide range of applications. Through Motorola's Application Partner Programme customers and system integrators can have access to advanced features and build on their investment.

o Provides clearer voice communications over a greater range than comparable analogue radios, rejecting static and noise.

o Offers enhanced battery life. Digital TDMA two-way radios can operate up to 40 percent longer between recharges compared to typical analogue radios.

o Enables additional functionality including dispatch data, and enhanced call signaling.

o Provides easy migration from analogue to digital with the ability to operate in both analogue and digital modes.

o Meets demanding specifications - U.S. Military 810 C, D, E, and F, IP57 for submersibility (portable models), and Motorola standards for durability and reliability.

o Uses the IMPRES(TM) Smart Energy System to automate battery maintenance, optimise life cycle and maximise talk time.

The Mototrbo has a range of accessories available from leather cases, water proof cases, ear pieces and chargers. Using the built in GPS tracking features of the Mototrbo radio you can easily locate your device using special Motorola tracking software - never lose a radio again!

How to Promote Your Talk Radio Show

All The Normal Internet Ways To Promote A Site

Before I jump into this, I want you to know it is good to get a few shows, actually 4 or 5 already done before you actually go full bore on promoting your show.

Promoting your Internet Talk Radio Show site at TalkShoe, online and in the search engines is just like promoting any other website so I'm not going to spend a lot of time going into website promotion. You can do all the regular online promotion like getting back links through authority sites, putting up your search engine optimized blog, submitting articles to article directories, putting links in your forum signature files, and on and on and on. And it will all work if you have not done any of those kinds of things to promote a site yet.

So I do want you to know it is not only possible to promote your actual page on TalkShoe, but your TalkShoe Blog and a separate blog that is all search engine optimized that you run in tandem with those sites.

Promoting Your Shows As Podcasts

So the real question you should be asking is not how to I get more people to my live show, (Though you really want those too), but how do I attract more listeners to my show?" The answers is Podcasts. As a beginner or pro, we all share the same desire - to build our listener base.

If you are offering quality informative content in a professional manner someone is interested in, you don't want them to just be able to hear it on your schedule, (When you show airs), but on their schedule; any time they want to listen. Do you really care when they listen, as long as they do listen. Because when they do listen, they are not only hearing what they perceive as expert information, but they are also hearing what this expert recommends. (Which you just happen to make money on.) And that situation is what Pod Casting allows for. You having an ever growing audience that not only loves your show but loves being able to listen to it whenever they want to.

They can listen on their computer, burn you Pod Cast onto a CD an play it in the car on the way to work, download it as an MP3, put it on their iPod and listen to your show when they are jogging, or at the gym or where ever and whenever. Now that is media distribution.

Become a Radio DJ - Learn 4 Ways to Get Your Chance As a Radio DJ

If you want to become a radio DJ, there will to be somethings you will need to know about. It is not as simple as waking up one morning and deciding you are going to be a radio disc jockey. However, I will not leave you in the dark. I will explain a few things that you need to know to start you down the right path.

First off, you can not expect to get hire as a full time radio DJ right off the bat. There are a couple of things you need to do.

Start with College Radio:

You can start out at the local college or university radio station, this of course is on a volunteer basis. However, these spots are usually taken up by the local college kids, most likely from the communications department, or maybe even the performing arts department.

If you have a good enough pitch, you might be able to make a deal, and still anchor yourself a spot, usually a few hours a night, or week, depending on if there are any openings.

Do your own Live Broadcasting over the net:

This is as simple as having a good selection of music, and an idea to talk about while the next songs are coming up.

These have become quite popular over the years, with various types of software available out there for it, both from your desktop, and web based.

You will need your own server, or hosting platform to get this off the ground. And of course, this will be a none paying gig. Unless you can get some advertising or sponsors to pay you some money for you to advertise for them over the net. I wouldn't try this at the start, wait until you get a good solid following to make it work their while

Start at the bottom of a local major radio station:

This one is not all that appealing I know, but we all have to start at the bottom. And if you can get a position at the station that actually involves the radio part, and not pushing papers in some cubicle somewhere, all the better.

You might even want to start as an intern, and be the station "gopher" while you learn the ropes. This is a great way of starting out, and I've seen it happen.

Go to College or University for a degree:

Now, this does not instantly guarantee you a position at a radio station to be a DJ, but it does give you the ins and outs of the business, and even some air time at the campus station, maybe even a foot in the door at a small local station down the road.

If you are really serious, and you want to become a radio DJ, then you need to do the foot work, do the time, and learn the business anyway you can. It is very rare that a green horn will get the mic right away. Just keep trying, and never give up, and you never know, you might be the host of your own show someday. Now wouldn't that be something?

How to Start a Radio Station Methodically - 'Radio Station Business Plan' Explained Step By Step!

Starting a radio station requires you to break up all the activities into two broad parts -

(1) Making the radio station business plan.

&

(2) Ground execution.

You will be surprised to learn that most of the people who start a radio station spend 3-15 months just making the plan and only 2-3 months for actual ground execution.

Benefits of a making your Radio station Business plan

1. It defines the key actionable and sets you into a progressive and definite action mode.

2. While drafting the plan one gets to know the ins and outs of the business.

3. The broadcast license application is judged based on the quality of the plan.

4. It is the only way to raise funds from banks, investors or venture capitalists.

5. Expenses are incurred based on a well thought out scheme thereby reducing the chances of wrong buying.

Contents that you should incorporate in your radio station business plan

(just an indicative list)

1. Identifying statutory norms and proposed compliance.(licensing, royalties, taxes, human resource laws etc)

2. All data required for completing the license application form.

(U.S applicants can check the requirements of point 1 & 2 at www.fcc.gov/. U.K applicants can check for these details at: http://www.ofcom.org.uk/. Know Who Invented The Radio?

Before dwelling on who invented the radio, there are other notable discoveries that led to the invention. In fact, it was thanks to German scientist Heinrich Hertz who proved that radio waves existed in nature. By acknowledging its presence, people were able to play with ideas and possibilities revolving them, instead of confining themselves to the idea that communication could only exist through wire. Then, in 1895, an Italian man named Gugliemo Marconi was the one who invented the radio, which came as the form of a wireless telegraph. This was created while conducting experiments in his parents' attic. The experiment led to the finding that he could use radio waves to transmit Morse code, and the instrument that was used to transmit the codes was called the radio. Then in 1906, he received a Nobel Prize for physics in which he shared with a German named Ferdinand Braun, where both were recognized for their contributions towards the development of the wireless telegraphy.

A radio works by changing signals into radio waves, which can travel through various mediums like air, space, or solid objects, and then the receiver of the radio would convert the waves back into the intended signal, which are the sounds, words, and music we hear on them. In radio broadcasts, the transmission is only one-way, where the signal originates from a radio station, which would be received by the radio in households. In the early 1920s, people relied heavily on radios for information and entertainment. There were over 500 radio stations available with focus ranging on news, sports, music, drama, and variety shows. And by the 1930s, almost every household in the US and Europe would have at least one radio. Many families would gather around the radio to listen to their favorite variety shows of their time. In present day, radios come in many forms making it accessible to anyone at all.

Shop Watch - The Benefits of Good Radio Communications

The introduction of a radio communications system to aid local shopkeepers in the fight against crime has proven to be an invaluable asset in many towns and cities throughout the UK. When shopkeepers have an instant and effective means of alerting each other and the Police to convicted and potential shoplifters, suddenly crime ceases to be rewarding for those involved. Even cheque and credit card fraud become less inviting in a town where local shops can inform each other of a suspect transaction.

Leek Shopwatch was taken over by The Communications Company in December 2002. A new Motorola Eurobase was installed with a UHF 4 stack antenna. All the users were issued with Motorola professional range of Motorola GP340s.

24 shops in Leek benefit from the system, co-ordinated by WPC Sarah Wilkinson and Chris Brown on their own Shopwatch radios. Leek Shopwatch is also monitored by Leek Police Station using a Motorola GM349 local base ensuring immediate response to any urgent calls and the latest Photofit files of known convicted local offenders are distributed to all shops on the scheme.

Leek Town Centre Co-ordinator Mike Cozens has said, "At the moment there are 24 retailers engaged in the scheme and I have been encouraging the town to develop it further. It's an important scheme to have in terms of crime and deterrent and it does work and has had many successes in aiding the arrest of shoplifters". See blog, "Shopwatch score a major success".

In any industry Radio Communications are vital to the efficiency of an operation. It doesn't matter if you are running a local town event, or helping to organise and run an Olympic ceremony. When you only have seconds to communicate a decision a good communication infrastructure is vital.

The Invention of Two Way Radios and The Effect It Has Had On Humans

Do you ever wonder how life was before the invention of two way radios? Technology advancement has been the solution to the several life problems including communication. A brief memory of how the two way radios were developed tells us the suffering humans were subjected to before the advent of the two way radios. The creation of two way radios was during early 1900s, prior to that you have to stretch your imagination: How do you believe pilots communicated with the ground? How did the secret service protect the VIPS effectively? How was war run? This are some of the questions that make one realize the worth of technology in our day to day existence and appreciate how far we have come!

Two way radios in the contemporary world has many diverse applications, ranging from private, industrial and armed forces roles. Our dependence on these gadgets is not only incredible but also remarkable since these gadgets are the medium of communication in many different circumstances. We make use of two way radios in a variety of different ways including: camping, mountaineering, sport hunting, serious industrial operations, policing, army and merchandising businesses.

Two way radios are operated by selecting the proper channel and using the buttons on the radio. This type of two way radios are generally reserved for particular functions or specific geographical places. They can be used by the following groups: pilots, safety personnel, business workers and marines. The conventional radios use fixed RF channels for communication although the trunked radios have a system that picks the physical radio frequency. The other two way radios are the simplex and the duplex two way radios that are classified primarily based on their mode of operation. The technique or procedure of these two way radios vary relying on the function and the business that manufactures it. Before purchasing it is best to know what purpose you have for a two way radio and how the functions in these two way radios you propose to purchase will meet with your communication needs.

The following features make these fantastic gadgets that can only be summed as the objects of desire. Rechargeable battery lasting 8 to twelve hours or much more, illuminated LCD displays, rapid chargers, headsets, weather alerts, privacy codes, fingers free, USB charging port, key stroke sign and emergency alert button for you to use when in a disaster. Two way radios also come with variety of other user pleasant functions such as light, as well as fat and thin plastic casing designed to military specifications. Hand Crank Emergency Radio

Around the 1990s Trevor Baylis, a British, invented the first hand crank emergency radio that was built by simply using a transistor radio, music box and a toy car. He was inspired by a television programme he was watching about the increase of AIDS around Africa. The program deliberated on how radio broadcasts can help educate people on AIDS but how that was curtailed by the fact that most people in Africa did not have access to electricity. With such widespread lack of standard power sources such as batteries and electricity, Baylis decided to invent a radio that used a cheaper way of getting power. He convinced several investors to finance his idea and won the BBC Design Award in 1996. He distributed the radios through his own company BayGen Power Industries.

From the foregoing, even though it was initially built with the power problem in Africa in mind, the hand crank emergency radio finds use in many other situations where power would be a problem. For instance, widespread natural or manmade disasters can cause power blackouts thus preventing the persons in the affected area from getting life saving information they would otherwise receive through radio or television. Most electrical gadgets in the home today such as televisions, radios and computers rely solely on mains electricity. In such circumstances, a emergency radio would serve as a backup source of information that can be used to find out vital information on what is in the vicinity and what people should do to mitigate the effects of the disaster.

The hand crank emergency radio, as implied by the name, is powered by the use of a hand crank which is wound for two minutes. This provides the emergency radio with sufficient power to operate for anywhere between 30 minutes and one hour depending on the intensity of use. Even though the radio uses the hand crank, it can still be powered by using other conventional sources of power such as batteries, a solar board or using an adapter plugged into the mains supply. The more the number of power sources that can be used to fire up the emergency radio, the better it can serve as an emergency radio.

The hand crank emergency radio has the ability to receive both FM and AM frequencies. More advanced hand crank radios can receive international channels through the shortwave frequency. Of all the channels, the radio must be able to tune in to weather channels that relay information on weather conditions especially if the disaster is weather related such as a hurricane or floods. Hand crank radios are also fitted with additional functionality such as an emergency flashlight that can help them better serve as a utility tool during such crises. Like the radio, the flashlight is powered by winding the hand crank. The emergency radio is light weighing about 2 pounds. The cost too is low with most radios priced at below 0 per unit.

The History of Radio

The history of radio dates back to centuries ago and many people seem to be associated with it. Apart from James Clerk Maxwell there are many people who contributed to the idea of radio, some of the most famous are Michael Faraday, Friedrich Kohlrausch, Wilhelm Weber, and Heinrich Hertz. These were the people who contributed in one way or other for the development of radio.

Similarly, history of television also involves work of many scientists and engineers who work directly or indirectly for the invention and development of television. Just like history of radio, the history of television is also very vast and rich involving many people from many countries. So it would be wrong if we just mention the name of one person as many scientist, technicians, engineers work in their fields what we are seeing today as television.

Earlier television was mechanical as well as electronic gadget but later it became purely electronic item. So we can safely say that the foundation stone i.e. electromechanical principles were taken over by purely electronics as we are seeing it today. Actually, Maxwell was very impressed with electromagnetism related work of Michael Faraday. The main turning point in the development of radio started with the technical paper on Faraday's ideas on electromagnetism by Maxwell in 1855.

On the similar lines, the invention of television also involves work from several technicians, scientists and engineers who worked in different fields. Basically there are two different fields of technologies: early inventors tried to build a mechanical television on the basis of rotating disks technology by Paul Nipkow, whereas later electronic television was developed on the basis of cathode ray tube (CRT) in 1907 by English inventor Campbell and Russian scientist Boris.

We all know that over the period of time these were electronic television systems that replaced mechanical television technology due to obvious reasons, such as better performance, low heating and low power consumptions.

The base of the LM-004 was used, but the engine became the new Quattrovalvole, now used in the Countach, but with a lower compression ratio to allow the use of 94 RON fuel. Orders began coming in for this new and strange looking vehicle, and the first went to HRH King Hassan of Morocco. Soon others followed, with every possible option installed on them, from 'basic' factory models to heavily armored ones. Even the 7.0-Litre marine engine was installed in some of them, at one time even a station wagon-type was constructed as a prototype, but never entered production. The LM-002 became an immediate success, wherever you went with it, you would be admired, in the United States it even became known as the 'Rambo-Lambo', probably because its military looks and huge power. Roberts MP53 Sound 53 Sound System

This is a very popular system at the moment - it has a stylish and glossy finish which looks fantastic. Is it a Watch or a Two Way Radio?

The simple walkie talkie that one sees army men and policemen use in movies has become such an important and technology savvy device that it is almost unbelievable to think that it is the two way radios that we are talking about. They are now available in so many sleek models and features that it is really difficult for the consumer to choose the best available model. The sleek and slim built of these gadgets are at par with most of the state of the art mobile phone models available in the market. The latest offering from the two way radio stable is the walkie talkie shaped like a watch.

This latest model of the two way radio serves the dual purpose of the radio instrument as well as a watch. It can be worn around the wrist like a watch. The best aspect is that the model is ergonomic, i.e., it is extremely user friendly and is designed bearing in mind the user's comfort and the gadget's utility. Many people may think that in order to communicate, the gadget requires to be placed near the mouth of the wearer. This means that everytime the user needs to communicate, he has to bring his hand up to his mouth and talk. This is where technology has played a major role in simplifying gadgets. This special two way radio is equipped with a special voice activation feature that enables the wearer to use the device while keeping his hands free.

This model of the two way radios is not at all bulky and is devoid of peripherals like the antennae. The user can talk on the radio and simultaneously work on some other task. This design of the radio is extremely beneficial in a corporate environment where it ensures smooth flow of communication without interrupting the work.

White Christmas/The Drifters

White Christmas/The Drifters Tube. Duration : 2.68 Mins.

The Drifters' 1954 cover of "White Christmas" showcased the talents of lead singer Clyde McPhatter and the bass of Bill Pinkney. Their recording of the song peaked at #2 on Billboard's R&B chart in December 1954, and returned to the same chart in the next two years. In December 1955, "White Christmas" became the Drifters' first of 34 singles to register in the mainstream Hot 100 chart.[14] For decades, the Drifters' version was primarily heard on R & B radio stations, getting little exposure elsewhere. The song received a boost in the early 1990s, when it was prominently featured in the film Home Alone during a scene in which the lead character Kevin is applying his father's aftershave while mouthing the lyrics. Radio stations formats as diverse as oldies, adult contemporary, Top 40, and country began playing the Drifters' version. The song was later featured in the film The Santa Clause.

Top Online Radio Stations and Services

With the advances in high-speed internet more and more people are flocking to online radio stations for their listening pleasure rather than tuning in to their local airwaves. The internet offers a wider variety of choices in every genre and it is instantly available. There are also talk radio stations that offer fun and informative programming and you can pick up stations in any country around the world no matter where you are located.

The only drawback to online radio stations is that high-speed connections are a must, and the faster the better.

Slower speeds even in DSL can cause lags in signal, slow loading, and a lot of buffering which causes breaking up of the music or information. Another reason people are tuning into internet radio in droves is the fact that they are largely commercial free. Like the old FM of the initial heyday in the 70's that offered a commercial free alternative to AM stations, the internet gives its listeners continuous pleasure without breaks for advertising.

Some of the advantages of the top online radio stations:
Many broadcast both music and videos so you can see the top music videos to go along with the song vs just listening to the music on your radio. Easy to use Many offer parental guidance ability to block what you do not want your children listening to Some allow you to create your own 'station' with music you choose to listen to

Some of the disadvantages of the top online radio stations:
Many will require that you sign up for the service. Some are free, some are not, but most of the sign up forms are easy enough to fill out. Depending on your country of origin there may be some limitations from stations from other countries

For many listeners the internet is the way to go for the best music and talk radio experience.

CB Radio Microphone

When most people think of CB radio microphones, they think of truckers communicating back and forth with each other. This is due to the fact that for the better part of CB history, the trucking industry has had a big part of it. These CB microphones are only part of the CB radio. The microphone itself is useless. Throughout the years, these microphones have grown in popularity and use.

Civil service personnel have been using CB radios and CB radio microphones for decades. Over the years the innovations and more advanced technology have made communication between the different departments of civil service easier. Civil service personnel depend on receiving information accurately, quickly and clearly. Using quality microphones enables these personnel to obtain their information. Companies of all types use these CB microphones to keep in touch with shipments. This communication can allow them to track shipment status or give directions to their drivers.

When talking about CB radio microphones, there are several types that you can choose from that are made by several different brand names. One of the best types of microphones is one that is capable of noise canceling. This microphone cancels out any background noise when someone is talking, so that they are not interrupted. One other type of good microphone is called the roger beep microphone. When using this type, a beep will be transmitted when a person ends their conversation. This ability makes it easier for someone to have a conversation with the person on the other end. You can also choose from a dynamic or electrets microphone. The difference between these two microphones is that the dynamic has a ceramic cartridge and the electrets microphone contains an electric cartridge.

You want to choose the type of microphone that will work best for you. You also want to choose a brand that you know and trust. There are many brands on the market today that produce quality microphones. Among these brands are names like Cobra, Wallcot and Uniden are among the top brands. These brands have been producing quality products that you can trust to receive and relay your messages clearly for years.

When choosing replacement microphones, you want to make sure that the pins match up. Connection pins are not the same on every microphone model. If the connection pins do not match up, then the microphone will not work and you will have something that you can not use. If you are not sure what type of microphone it is that you need, then ask someone who is more knowledgeable to ensure that you get what you need. If you are in the market for this type of item, then there are many shops that you can find in your local area that will be able to help you. shopping for them online is also a good way to go. CB radio microphones are great ways to communicate over the radio clearly and quickly.

Guy Mitchell - Heartaches By The Number

Guy Mitchell - Heartaches By The Number Tube. Duration : 2.57 Mins.

PLEASE NOTE: I divided my uploads between multiple channels, Bookmark this link in your browser for instant access to an index with links to all of John1948's oldies classics. LINK: tinyurl.com To some listeners, the name Guy Mitchell evokes contempt -- as the singer whose pop-styled covers of "Singin' the Blues" and "Knee Deep in the Blues" cut the legs out from under Marty Robbins' country-styled original renditions. To others, Mitchell evokes the last period of America's innocence, the mid-'50s, when he periodically ascended the pop charts in the company of singers like Frankie Laine. Mitchell was all of those things and more, in some ways a trail-blazer -- he was the first major recording artist whose career was crafted in the studio, by a record company, and sold to the public by way of records and the radio, not concerts. He was the precursor to the late-'50s teen idols crafted by the industry as an alternative to the burgeoning success of rock & roll. In contrast to some of the younger male singing idols of that era, however, Mitchell had a genuinely good voice as his starting point in music. He was born Al Cernick in Detroit in 1927, into a Yugoslavian immigrant family whose members sang as often as possible, for their own pleasure. He made his first appearance as a singer at age three, at a wedding reception. The Cernick family moved across the country in search of a place they liked, before reaching Los Angeles in 1938. He was spotted by a talent scout and ...

Faster Emergency Response Time - Motorola's First Police Car Radios

Motorola, then known as Galvin Manufacturing Corporation, introduced its first commercially successful car radios, in June 1930. The device was intended initially for the general public, but soon city governments as well as police departments across Chicago and the US clamored for radios for public safety use. This was the start of Motorola's pioneering expertise in the field of mobile communication.

When the first commercial radio broadcast went on air in the 1920's, it became the cheapest form of entertainment enjoyed by the general public. Hobbyists began experimenting by fitting their home radios into motorcars. Galvin Manufacturing saw this opportunity and began producing car radios for public consumption.

A market nobody owned

In the meantime, police stations laboured to relay messages to patrol officers. Police officers often used public telephones on the street to contact the station which delayed response time in an emergency. Police departments experimented by interrupting radio broadcasts to relay messages to patrol cars equipped with car radios. This step, however, not only delayed communications but also informed the radio listeners where the problems were. Understandably, a better and faster means of communication was needed.

Not long after Galvin Manufacturing marketed its car radio for public use, it began to receive orders from the public safety sector. Company co-founder Paul Galvin foresaw the market for this demand. He realised there was a need in this market that nobody owned.

Creating the first police car radio

Galvin Manufacturing manufactured its first police car radio by modifying its consumer car radios. Police departments would specify the radio frequency that their sets should receive.
Galvin Manufacturing technicians would then manually adjust the tuning coils and condensers to the desired frequency. The police radio chassis were placed in the same housing as the consumer house radios and both the consumer and police car radios were given a brand name - Motorola.

As the use of police car radios grew, problems emerged. Bad roads, unstable frequency, high power utilisation, car engine noises and signal interference led Galvin Manufacturing to produce a better radio specifically designed for police patrol cars.

The first police car radio customers

Relaying a message from a police station to its roving patrol cars was the pioneering move in Galvin Manufacturing's mobile communication. However, patrol cars at this time were unable to transmit back to their station's dispatchers to reply or ask for assistance. Galvin Manufacturing took their chief engineer, Don Mitchell, to task to design a two-way radio system for patrol cars. The company introduced the Model T6920 AM mobile transmitter in August 1939, which has a frequency range of 30-40 MHz. It was soon followed by the P6912 VHF receiver and radio base equipment.

This new Motorola two-way mobile radio system was more powerful, easily installed and carried only one-fourth of its competitor's price tag. In 1940, the Bowling Green Police Department in Kentucky was the first law enforcement division to use a complete AM two-way mobile radio system. These same well-designed radio models were produced for many years until the new FM technology took over in the 1940"s.
